Swivel Connector Solves Kinks at the Aircraft Connection Point

Efficient aircraft ground servicing depends on the safe and reliable transfer of fuel, air, and other utility services between ground support equipment (GSE) and aircraft.

One persistent operational challenge is hose twisting that develops when connecting the pre-conditioned air (PCA) hose at the aircraft. This issue can reduce hose life, increase maintenance costs, create safety hazards, and negatively impact operational efficiency of air flow.

Flexible hoses used in aircraft servicing applications are subjected to repeated movement, dragging, coiling, and connection cycles. Over time, these activities introduce twisting forces into the hose structure. When these forces are not relieved, they can result in kinking and flow restrictions.

Also, aircraft rarely stop in exactly the same location at a gate or stand. Small differences in positioning require hose repositioning and can introduce rotational stress into the hose assembly.

Swivel assembly eliminates the kinking at the connection

By implementing a swivel assembly at the hose aircraft connection site, you allow for rotational movement while maintaining a sealed air flow path.  The swivel absorbs rotational forces, prevents torque transfer to the hose body, and maintains unrestricted air flow. By allowing free rotation around the hose axis, the swivel continuously relieves accumulated torsional stress.

When the operators move around the aircraft or reposition equipment, the swivel allows the hose to naturally rotate into a neutral position thus eliminating kinking at the connection.  Ground crews can now confidently connect and disconnect hoses without concern for rotational buildup, improving workflow efficiency.
