eGPU for aviation

Clean. Reliable. Cost-efficient ground power designed for the future of aviation.

As airports and airlines move toward a cleaner and more efficient future, battery-driven ground power units (eGPU) give you a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel GPUs. Powered by advanced battery technology, the 7400 eGPUs deliver consistent power to aircraft of every size — from regional jets to wide-body aircraft.

What is a battery-driven GPU?

A battery-driven Ground Power Unit (eGPU) supplies 400 Hz or 28 V DC power to aircraft while parked on the apron, in the hangar, or at the gate.

Unlike conventional diesel GPUs, battery models rely on high-capacity battery systems, offering:

  • No emissions at point of use and a significantly reduced CO₂ footprint
  • Silent operation for safer, more comfortable ramp operations
  • Lower total cost of ownership through minimal fuel and maintenance costs
  • Flexible operation: use it at remote stands, in hangars or by the gate

These advantages make eGPUs the preferred solution for airports committed to greener operations, high safety at the apron, and higher efficiency.

ITW GSE eGPU range

We introduced the world’s first battery-powered eGPU in 2017 and since 2021, our portfolio covers every aircraft category. The ITW GSE 7400 series defines a new standard for electrical ground support equipment.

Model
Output
Application
Key Features
400 Hz AC / 90–180 kVA
Narrow- to wide-body aircraft
Ideal for remote stands and hangars, silent, minimal maintenance
28 V DC
Business jets, regional and military aircraft
Quiet lithium-battery operation capable of up to 100 engine starts on a full charge

Each unit is built on a common design platform, sharing the same user interface and control logic to simplify training and reduce the risk of human error.

Battery and performance technology

Our eGPUs use lithium-battery technology engineered for maximum energy density and long lifecycle performance. Key specifications include:

  • High peak and continuous output to meet demanding start-up loads
  • Fast charging and long endurance for continuous ramp operations
  • The ability to recharge from a standard power socket and supply power while recharging, providing full operational flexibility at remote stands and in hangars
  • Integrated safety systems ensuring operational reliability in all climates
  • Smart power management optimizing battery use and performance data through digital monitoring

Whether you operate in the Arctic or the desert, ITW GSE units are tested and proven to perform.

Environmentally friendly ground support equipment

Choosing an ITW GSE eGPU contributes directly to airport sustainability goals:

  • No emissions at point of use and reduced carbon footprint
  • Hardly any noise pollution for ground crews and nearby communities
  • Compliance with global airport sustainability frameworks
  • More than 40% CO₂ reduction during a typical aircraft turnaround compared to diesel-driven GPUs

Combined with our EcoGate system, battery-driven GPUs can become part of a connected ecosystem that intelligently distributes available power across all a wide range ofITW GSE ground support equipment — increasing overall energy efficiency.
