Baden-Airpark GmbH Invests in Electric Ground Power Units to Reduce Airport Emissions

ITW GSE is proud to support Baden-Airpark GmbH (FKB Airport) in advancing its airport emission reduction strategy with the delivery of ten ITW GSE 7400 electric ground power units (eGPUs).

The investment marks an important milestone in FKB Airport’s ambition to significantly reduce local emissions by 2030 and strengthen its commitment to aviation sustainability.

Supporting Airport Emission Reduction Through Electric GSE

Airports across Europe are accelerating initiatives to reduce noise, exhaust fumes, and carbon emissions from ground operations. Traditional diesel-powered GPUs contribute to local air pollution and ramp noise levels, directly affecting both ground personnel and surrounding communities.

By introducing ten battery-powered GPUs, FKB Airport is transitioning to cleaner and quieter apron operations.

Eric Blechschmidt, Director Aviation at Baden-Airpark GmbH (FKB Airport), states:

With the introduction of ten new eGPUs, we are taking an important step toward significantly reducing emissions at the airport. Cutting noise and exhaust emissions benefits not only our colleagues working directly at the aircraft, but also the local community around the airport.”

Electric Ground Power Units – A Key Step Toward Sustainable Ground Support Equipment

The ITW GSE 7400 is a battery-powered ground power unit designed to deliver reliable 400 Hz power without local emissions. By replacing diesel units with electric GSE, airports can:

  • Reduce local CO₂ and NOx emissions
  • Lower apron noise levels
  • Improve working conditions for ramp personnel
  • Support long-term airport sustainability targets

Driving Aviation Sustainability with Battery-Powered GPUs

Ground support equipment plays a crucial role in achieving aviation sustainability goals. As airports aim to reduce emissions by 2030 and beyond, electric ground power solutions provide an immediate and measurable impact.

Battery-powered GPUs enable airports to maintain operational efficiency while minimizing environmental footprint — supporting both regulatory requirements and community expectations.

Explore how we support sustainable ground support equipment solutions across airports worldwide.

Turning Sustainability Ambitions into Action

The partnership with Baden-Airpark GmbH demonstrates how airport emission reduction targets can be translated into practical operational improvements. By investing in electric GSE today, FKB Airport is creating cleaner, quieter, and more future-ready ground operations.

We are proud to contribute to a greener aviation industry — delivering simply smarter ground support.
