Brisbane Airport reduces emissions with the 7400 eGPU

Brisbane Airport is taking another step toward cleaner ground operations.
Together with RATE Australia, the airport has introduced the ITW GSE 7400 eGPU to help reduce emissions and fuel use while maintaining reliable aircraft power.

A testimonial from RATE Australia Pty. Ltd.

In late 2018, RATE Australia visited ITW GSE’s facility in Odense, Denmark, to test and approve the first 7400 eGPU before delivery.

The collaboration marks an important step in bringing cleaner, smarter ground support technology to airports worldwide.

“We’ve just purchased the first ITW GSE 7400 battery-powered unit for Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane Airport are very keen on this product as part of the green accreditation and reducing their carbon footprint.”

Peter Reidy, RATE Australia Pty. Ltd.

Brisbane Airport and sustainability

Brisbane Airport is one of Australia’s largest and most forward-looking aviation hubs. As part of its sustainability strategy, the airport continuously invests in cleaner technologies to reduce environmental impact and enhance operational efficiency.

To support its green accreditation goals, Brisbane Airport sought a dependable power solution that could help reduce fuel consumption and minimize environmental impact during aircraft servicing. The traditional diesel GPUs contribute to CO₂ and noise emissions - two areas that the airport actively aims to improve - and the eGPUs offer the perfect alternative.

The ITW GSE solution

In collaboration with RATE Australia Pty. Ltd., Brisbane Airport selected the ITW GSE 7400 eGPU, a battery-powered Ground Power Unit designed to deliver reliable 400 Hz power while supporting cleaner ground operations.

The unit helps airports lower emissions, reduce noise, and simplify maintenance, all while maintaining uptime and performance comparable to conventional GPUs.

The result:

  • Reduced environmental impact: Helps lower CO₂ output and fuel use during aircraft servicing.
  • Quieter performance: Improves working conditions on the apron by reducing noise levels.
  • Proven reliability: Same 400 Hz output as traditional GPUs, tried and tested at ITW GSE’s facilities.
  • Supports sustainability goals: Contributes to Brisbane Airport’s long-term environmental strategy and green certification targets.
